Meet Cecily Herzig, Programmer & Tech Team
Cecily is the host of Connections which airs Wednesday nights from 9-10pm.
How did you first get involved with Royalton Community Radio?
It was a year before the pandemic and my boyfriend and I were bored. I had been a DJ in college and knew about the station in town so I reached out to see if we could do a weekly show playing goth music and giving out relationship advice.
What’s your role at the station, and what do you love most about it?
I host a show called Connections on Wednesday nights at 9pm where I pick an artist and put together a show connecting them to other musicians. I’m also on the board, and a member of the tech team. I love the board meetings, everyone on the board loves music, and cares deeply about the station. I’m constantly learning something new, and adore the mix of the different personalities gathered together with a common interest. It’s a real community that cares about the community. The board is thoughtful and generous.
How has being part of RCR impacted you or your connection to the community?
It’s a bit rough out there in the world these days, and there’s a lot of yelling and finger pointing. This station connects people with the community, brings musical and other events to town, and music builds camaraderie. For the first time in a long time I feel connected to something kind, non-competitive and generous…which makes me feel connected to the community.
Any fun behind-the-scenes stories from your time on air?
My mom listens to my show from the west coast every week, she’s always on hand to help with my pronunciation fumbles…AFTER I’ve made them (and I make a lot of them). She also sends me texts throughout my show with questions, and sometimes shares fun facts about the artists I may not have uncovered yet. It warms my heart that she’s so far away but still tunes in every week.
If you could describe RCR in three words, what would they be?
